Mycoplasma pneumoniae-induced rash and mucositis (MIRM) is a relatively recently described and rare condition that predominantly affects children and adolescence. Its true incidence remains unknown, which, together with the variable clinical
presentation, significantly complicates diagnosis in clinical practice, not only for pediatricians but also for dermatologists. MIRM typical presents with extensive mucositis with prominent and occasionally vesiculobullous and/or targetoid, cutaneous erruptions. The clinical presentation is characterized by involvement of two or more organ systems, including the ocular, oral, and nasal mucosa,
gastrointestinal tract, and genitourinary system, with mild skin involvement that may be completely absent. Currently, no standardized clinical management or treatment guidelines for MIRM exist. According to published data, the vast majority of patients are treated with targeted antibiotic therapy in combination with immunointerventional treatment, most commonly systemic corticosteroids and/or
intravenous immunoglobulins, which appears to be effective. In this article, we present a retrospective analysis of a our cohort of patient in whom we diagnosed and treated MIRM, and provide an overview of the current state of knowledge regarding this condition.
